Assistant Vice Chancellor for Innovation & Collaboration and Assistant State Librarian

As part of the executive administrative team, provides strategic leadership to the state library. Manages a team of five program directors and 18 staff, including the Georgia Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled. Consults with Georgia's 61 public library directors in library administration, funding and government relations, strategic planning, and library advocacy.
 

  • Leads multiple statewide, collaborative digital library resource sharing programs accessed daily by thousands of library users. Directly manages a budget of $3.3M and contributes to decision-making on an agency-wide budget of $50M in state and federal funds;

  • Directs public library participation in the Georgia Reads for America250 initiative, in partnership with the Georgia Council on Literacy and the Georgia Municipal Association;

  • Directs eRead Georgia--a popular new, statewide ebook and digital audiobook reading platform hosted by the Palace Project--which helps libraries save money and strengthen marketplace competition by advocating with publishers for better licensing terms;

  • Prepares and implements library trustee training sessions, facilitates strategic planning, and provides consultation to public libraries statewide;

  • Identifies legislative or policy changes and strategies.

Led a wide variety of projects and partnerships to collect, preserve, and share Georgia's history and heritage. Managed all aspects of program operations, including vendor relationships and operational workflows. Developed and delivered dynamic education programs to improve archival literacy among library staff. 

 

  • Oversaw the Archival Services & Digital Initiatives department (formerly Georgia HomePLACE) and provided support in planning, budgeting, scheduling, facilitating, reporting and publicizing collaborative digitization projects;

  • Served as the primary liaison between the Digital Library of Georgia and the state's public libraries;

  • Worked with DLG to implement multiple collaborative digitization projects involving original historical materials in libraries and associated history-related organizations across the state;

  • Provided training and professional development as appropriate to enhance public librarians understanding of DLG digitization approaches and processes;

  • Significantly increased accessibility of and user engagement with archival and historical materials held by libraries and their partner organizations;

  • Managed a budget of $75,000 in combined state and federal funds.

Managed all aspects of the library’s archives and special collections programs, including donor relations, acquisitions, processing, and digitization. Promoted from Heritage Room Librarian to Head of Archives and Special Collections in 2015, and oversaw a staff of four.

  • Managed all aspects of the Heritage Room, including archival collections processing workflows, digitization projects, and archives and genealogy reference;

  • Increased staffing by an additional 1.5 FTE staff and expanded public service hours to facilitate greater community access;

  • Established an locally-managed digital preservation program for born-digital and digitized collections using free and open source software;

  • Promoted to department head and senior management team member in July 2015.

  • Received two Historic Preservation grants for the care and maintenance of archival collections;
